What is a name server?

Domain name servers (DNS) provide the information which IP address belongs to which domain name.

Every time you connect to a web page, a name server delivers the corresponding IP address of the server, where the website is located (technically “hosted”), to the browser so it can connect and retrieve the page.

For domain name registrations two nameservers, in different class C ip address ranges, are required.
With every domain name registered, EDIS provides 4 nameservers free of charge. Two of which are located at our own datacentre in Graz and the other two are located in London and Zurich respectively for additional redundancy.

EDIS DNS are:

NS1.EDIS.AT (located in Graz, Austria)
NS2.EDIS.AT (located in Graz, Austria)
NS5.EDIS.AT (located in London, UK)
NS6.EDIS.AT (located in Zurich, Switzerland)

Please note that both DNS in Austria can be used as 'resolver' name servers for your server(s). DNS in the UK and Switzerland do not allow recursive queries.
